Los Olmos Project

Additional Info

Peru

Description:
The Los Olmos Project was designed to divert water from the Huancabamba River on the humid eastern side of the Andes to the arid Los Olmos River that runs to the Pacific. The Los Olmos project will bring more than 2 billion liters of water to the Pacific coast annually and irrigate over 56,000 hectares of scrubland. The project included the construction of the 43m-high Limón dam and a 20km-long tunnel through the mountains. The reservoir holds about 44 million m3 of water. The project centerpiece is the trans-Andean tunnel, dug 2300m below the surface.

Products Used:
PENETRON products were used to waterproof and protect the concrete structure at the tunnel exit.

Lorain County Transportation Center

Additional Info

Elyria, OH, USA

Description:
The extensive renovation of the historical Lorain County Ohio Transportation Center included exterior renovations, new roofing, façade repairs and work done on the building interior, which included waterproofing the foundation, restoring the beautiful octagonal rotunda and the interior walls.  Finally, “park and ride” capabilities were added and the original passenger railway platforms restored.

Products Used:

Long Tan Hydroelectric Dam

Additional Info

Guangxi Province, China

Description:
With a height of 216.5m (710 ft.), a crest length of 830.5m (2725 ft.) and a normal water level of 400m (1312 ft.), the Long Tan hydroelectric dam is the world's largest roller-compacted concrete (RCC) dam. Located at the upper reaches of Jiangshui River in China’s Guangxi Province, the dam provides 18.7 billion kilowatt-hours of power annually to the Pearl River delta between Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Products Used:
PENETRON was successfully applied as a waterproofing coating to ensure the impermeability of the entire upper side of the dam and to increase the anti-slide stability of the RCC layer's surface.

Latter Day Saints HVAC & Utility Tunnels

Additional Info

Salt Lake City, UT, USA

Description:
This project involved waterproofing a building foundation that formed the exterior perimeter of a tunnel system that provided air return to a number of HVAC systems throughout the building. These tunnels were originally formed by casting a concrete “trough”; the perimeter being the building foundation with the “floor” and “interior wall” being separate components. The exterior perimeter foundation wall was waterproofed only on the inside by application of a tar-like coating. The finished foundational “tunnels” were approximately 2 feet tall and 3 feet wide and extended up to 175 feet. Water intrusions were present in several areas with standing water present.

Products Used:
The contract involved cleaning, waterproofing and protecting the tunnel components from further water intrusion and water damage. The concrete walls and floors were waterproofed with PENETRON, all penetrations and non-moving joints were packed with PENECRETE MORTAR. The project was completed under budget thanks to the performance of the PENETRON products.

Lakewood Waste Water Treatment Plant

Additional Info

Lakewood, OH, USA

Description:
Due to the continuing development around Mosquito Lake, one of Ohio's largest lakes, upgrades to the existing treatment plant in Trumbull County were made. Improvements included converting the existing treatment tanks to a flow equalization tank for wet weather events, the installation of an 85,000 GPD dual train packaged treatment system, and increasing the sand filtration area by an additional 50%.

Products Used:
Instead of the originally specified painted steel treatment system, a more durable PENETRON ADMIX treated precast concrete system was cast, which also met project restrictions due to the site’s small footprint and staging space. The precast system provides greater life span expectancy than a steel plant. The positive results prompted specification of PENETRON surface applied products for leaks in the existing treatment tanks too.
