Olympic Sports Center Stadium

Additional Info

Qinhuangdao, China

Description:
Qinhuangdao's Olympic Sports Center Stadium, with a seating capacity of 33,572, hosted many of the soccer matches during the 2008 Summer Olympics.

Products Used:
As a prestigious project for China’s Olympics 2008 event, over 10,000m2 of concrete stadium seating were coated with PENETRON as a precaution against water leakage to areas underneath the stands.

Olympic Park Wastewater Treatment Plant

Additional Info

Beijing, China

Description:
Because China made efforts to create a “green” Olympics, a dedicated waste water treatment plant was built to treat the wastewater from the Olympic park and surrounding stadium and arenas. This state-of-the-art facility partly breaks the waste water down to organic fertilizer and implemented many other Chinese-developed and patented technologies.

Products Used:
PENETRON was used to waterproof the concrete structure and reaction tank and for protection against corrosion from chemical attack. The total treatment area was about 6,000m2.

Olympic Forest Park Observation Tower

Additional Info

Beijing, China

Description:
The latest addition to China’s Olympic Park, the Olympic Forest Park Observation Tower is 243 meters tall, making it the largest structure in China's capital.  The Tower overlooks Beijing’s Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Mao Tse-Tung’s mausoleum, the Qianmen Gate, Drum Tower and the Bell Tower.  The Tower features five interconnected taller and shorter towers with viewing platforms going up from 186m to 243m above ground.

Products Used:
To protect the massive concrete foundation of the tower, the PENETRON System was applied to more than 30,000 square meters of concrete surface using the dry-shake application (basement slab) and coating application (retaining walls) to maximize concrete durability.

Olefini

Additional Info

Athens, Greece

Description:
Olefini, a Greek manufacturer of air curtains, fan coils, fan heaters, plastic fans, ventilation equipment, air conditioning and heating accessories, had a problem at its new plant near the Mediterranean Sea. A concrete ramp, located 3m below sea level, was leaking seawater through numerous cracks due to high water pressure. Repairs had been attempted previously with conventional cement-based waterproofing products (at a thickness of 2cm), but the problem remained.

Products Used:
PENENTRON and PENEPLUG were successfully applied to solve the leaking. A drain pipe was used to alleviate water pressure during the waterproofing process.

Ogeum Pump Station Passageway

Additional Info

Seoul, South Korea

Description:
A small tunnel under a busy throughway in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, was built to link the area’s pump station with the river. Because of the heavy traffic volume on the throughway, there were concerns that the walls of the project would crack. The project owners looked for a waterproofing solution that would enhance concrete durability and also seal any hairline cracks.

Products Used:
PENETRON ADMIX was used to enhance the durability of the concrete to help minimize any cracking and also ensure resistance to any water penetration. The project was a complete success; the PENETRON ADMIX-treated concrete is performing as specified.

OCWA Eastern Reservoir

Additional Info

Manlius, NY, USA

Description:
The Onondaga County Water Authority (OCWA) upgrade of existing open-air, in-ground reservoirs converted these into enclosed and protected concrete tanks.  The construction of a 32 million gallon water holding tank system – spread over more than four acres – benefitted from an effective concrete waterproofing admixture that helped meet stringent performance and cost requirements.

Products Used:
The PENETRON ADMIX waterproofing agent was used in the ready-mix concrete because it met the tight budgetary limits of the OCWA Eastern Reservoir project.  It also helps concrete resist damage from freeze-thaw cycles, cracks and even spalling, increasing durability and effectively lowering maintenance costs.
